Short-term missions in Zambia

While we are in Zambia we perform various short-term missions, all to help the Zambian people. During our trip in April 2017, we had many opportunities to be helpful.

At the children's hospital, Beit CURE Hospital, we distributed infant and children's clothes, blankets, and stuffed animals. These were donated by Inner Wheel, Maxomorra and the IoB store in Älmhult. We also had soap bubbles that were a gift from Kvantum in Markaryd.

Before the trip, money was collected to buy shoes. We bought 50 pairs while we were there, and they were distributed to children and mothers at the hospital. In Zambia, it is important not to go barefoot due to parasites and wound infections and a pair of sandals protects against these.

We traveled to a city about 45 minutes’ drive from the hospital. There, about a hundred mothers had gathered and we offered them to check their blood sugar and to take a blood sample, this to find out if they needed to seek more care.

We also educated the mothers on how to feed their child in the right way.

Christina from the United States traveled as a representative of the organization 24.000.org and joined our team from HOPE587. Her organization bought in 100 mosquito nets and while we were in the village we were allowed to share these. Mosquito nets save lives as it protects against malaria.

The purpose of going out to the villages is to tell about God's love for all people, but also a way to find children who need medical care. Because the children's hospital Beit CURE Hospital is a private hospital, they are not allowed to promote themselves, but instead, they often have to seek out their patients. Since their good reputation has now begun to spread, more and more children are sent here from the local hospitals. This is a very positive development as more children receive help.

At the children's hospital, there is only a so-called transport ambulance that moves the children between different hospitals. When it gets acute, you take the emergency bag and the child into your arms and go to the nearest state hospital. There is no equipment in the ambulance.
