The Chicken Project

Donating chickens is a good way of helping families to increase self-sufficiency. It means a fresh start for many where the chickens soon will give grown hens, which will lay eggs that become food. The spill-over of eggs can be sold on markets and to neighbors. For income, the family can buy food and medicine as well as fund education for the children.

In 2017, HOPE587 bought an egg-breeding machine for a newly-launched chicken project in Zambia. We work with Harold Hakaamumba, employed at Beit CURE Hospital, where he works as a hospital pastor. Harold also has his own farm and that's where the egg-breeding machine stands.

Mothers to children who have visited the hospital are the ones who receive the chickens. They come from very simple conditions and are in great need of help.

Harold arranges for the chickens to be laid, hatched, vaccinated and delivered. He also trains the mothers on how to take care of them. They also get a starter kit with chicken food and food bottles.

Every month, ten mothers receive a brood of twenty chickens each.

For $ 2, you pay the cost for one chicken. A gift of $ 40 is enough to donate a whole brood of chickens. Giving such a gift, you will help a family to become self-sufficient.
