Education is an early way to break the cycle of poverty and therefore in 2020 we have started a new project to provide an opportunity for 100 orphans and poor children to continue their education even though their parents or guardians cannot pay for the costs.
As one of the great African statesmen Nelson Mandela said: “Education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that a farmer's daughter can become a physician, that a miner's son can become the head of a mine, that a farmer's child can become president of a large nation. "
For the past three years, southern part of Zambia has been partially affected by climate change, which has mainly affected rural areas that have small-scale agriculture as a livelihood. This situation has not only affected their food resources but has also lost their only source of income as they usually sell maize and cattle such as cattle, goats and pigs. These animals have been affected by restricted grazing areas and outbreaks of "foot-and-mouth disease", which means that farmers not only lose their animals, but cannot sell them because of restrictions.
This situation has affected the parents' ability to buy school uniforms for their children. Elementary school is free in Zambia, but parents are required to buy school uniforms, shoes, pens and books. That is why we have now started a collaboration with one of our parnters in Zambia, Harold Haamumba.
We work with two rural communities in Choma Rural, and elementary school students where the children either come from very poor conditions or are orphans.
When you give a gift of 200 SEK, you help a child to school for an entire academic year.
